Background of the Study
Jos North Local Government Area (LGA) in Plateau State has a history of ethnic tensions and conflicts, often rooted in competition over resources, political representation, and cultural differences. These conflicts have disrupted social cohesion, hindered development, and caused significant human and material losses. Development communication offers a pathway to address these challenges by promoting interethnic peace through dialogue, awareness campaigns, and participatory media initiatives. Communication strategies, such as community radio programs, interethnic workshops, and storytelling, foster mutual understanding and reduce stereotypes. Recent studies suggest that inclusive communication approaches that give voice to marginalized groups can significantly reduce interethnic tensions (Garba & Musa, 2024). This study explores the role of development communication in fostering interethnic peace in Jos North LGA.
